What is Point-to-Point Lesson (LPP)?

Point-to-Point Lesson, also known as One-Point Lesson is a tool that simply presents some visual concepts they must ensure, making it possible to know some equipment or operations from its beginning to the end.

In the Point-to-Point lesson, information should be transmitted simply and progressively, containing 80% of images or drawings and only 20% being descriptions or texts, as it ensures faster and more promising understanding.

This technique ensures several benefits for corporations and is therefore applied to many pillars that underlie the WCM methodology.

Now that you have understood what the One-Point Lesson is, let's understand what it's for and its applications.

But first, here's my tip for you to know the structure of the most modern methodology of continuous improvement.

What is the function of the Point-to-Point Lesson (LPP)?

The Point-to-Point Lesson tool aims to facilitate understanding of a specific subject within the workplace and is a great way to develop operators.

Although it is considered a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) technique, the Point-to-Point Lesson can be used in different business sectors, such as logistics operations, inspections and even administrative.

With the function of stimulating learning, the idea is that operators can elaborate their own drawings, and that they are self-explanatory. Another way to assemble the explanation is to take ready-made images and make the famous "cut and paste".

Can you see the similarity of this technique with what you did as a child, in preschool?

This is very interesting because it serves so that employees can learn by teaching, which is considered the best way to learn, according to William Glasser.

In addition, the application of this technique allows training to be fast, facilitates interaction and teamwork, and develops the communication skills of employees.

But let's understand how to apply this in any company.

Point-to-Point (LPP) Lesson Types

There are different methods and dynamics to empower people and offer training that improves company productivity. Therefore, the PPL can be subdivided into three categories:

Basic Knowledge

These are that more general knowledge in which the manager aims to provide that the activities are executed assertively.

This category serves when the information that needs to be passed on is more technical or managerial, such as the operation of a component or equipment.

Problem

As its name already says, this category refers to specific situations, that is, events of irregularities. Here, LUP or LPP serve to prevent and prevent errors, defects, failures or even incidents from occurring.

Sketches or images are used to describe problems and guide operators on how to avoid them clearly and visually.

Improvement

Last but not least, LPPs can also be applied to disseminate the improvements applied.

Usually this application is compared between before and after to make it easier for the employee to perceive the improvements and feel able to replicate this knowledge to their activities.

To ensure your learning and assist you in the implementation of this tool, let's see an example of an application.

How to do the Point-to-Point Lesson?

Because it is a training proposal, there is not a single correct way to apply it, however, it is important to consider some premises to ensure that everyone can develop.

The form serves to guide these premises to be considered and also to have a standardization, in which everyone can easily look and identify what the lesson is about.

The application must be carried out by operators and the construction of this document has the following information.

1. Lesson

A brief description of the lesson that will be addressed, as a title of the lesson.

2. Aftermath

Because the tool is used at specific points, in many cases there is a sequence to be taught, so it is important that the numbers of this sequence are defined, thus helping the employee to know what stage that knowledge is at.

3. Category

In which of the categories presented in the previous topic does this LPP correspond? This is also important to facilitate the identification of the document.

4. Date

Put the date on which this lesson was prepared so that you can always improve and consider your last update.

5. Responsible people

Those responsible for preparing the lesson, the sector and also for leadership must be registered to certify and validate the lesson.

6. Description

The description is the main space that will feature the images, texts, drawings or any very visual way to present the necessary knowledge.

Upon completion of the training, the Point-to-Point Lesson must be presented by the one who prepared it and then placed in a nearby place, easy to access and visualize, and can be plasticized to ensure its protection.
