What is Scrum?
Scrum is a framework created by two guys as a result of many years of experiments and learning. This framework was introduced to the public in 1995 by Jeff Sutherland and Ken Schwaber.
It was firstly created to work on software development teams. Nowadays, it is still very attached to the technology industry. However, it can be introduced to any kind of product development and it’s one of the most famous ways to develop a project.
In short, this agile methodology helps to build up efficient teams who can improve themselves and the project as well. Change is the only certainty.
A Scrum project is based on communication because transparency helps the feedback and the maintenance of the sprints.
Therefore, Scrum is far beyond traditional.
Agile Methodology
The Agile Manifesto was created in 2001. However, Agile Production was implemented many years before. The Toyota production system is one of those examples because it is based on lean manufacturing which is a way to avoid unnecessary costs and reduce waste.
Thus, Scrum is an agile methodology that focuses on optimizing production by eliminating waste, improving communication, being transparent, reducing costs, and delivering products quicker.
By following an Agile Methodology, changes can be done during the whole process, it focuses on continuous improvement.

What does “framework Scrum” mean?
As we saw above, Scrum is an agile methodology.
Nevertheless, Scrum and Agile are not the same thing as many people might think. Scrum is a framework, it’s more like a template, and Agile is the mindset behind it.
Scrum is a framework for managing a process, it’s a guide.
Scrum process: the agile Scrum methodology phases
Scrum is divided into some phases which are called Scrum Ceremonies or Scrum Events. A scrum ceremony is a helpful way to ensure that changes will not affect the team, and actually, changes are part of the team. The Scrum team has to be prepared for improvements.
The adaptation ability is a powerful tool in a scrum event, which are:
Sprint Backlog
This event is the responsibility of the Product Owner (PO) to organize which activities should be done by prioritizing the needs of the client.
Sprint Planning
The Scrum Master should lead this meeting and it’s where the team decides the sprint goals. At this Planning Meeting, they discuss the delays, priorities, and methods.
Sprint
Sprint is the actual time period when the whole scrum team is working together to conclude some increment. All the events, from planning to retrospectives, happen during the sprint.
Daily Scrum or Stand-up Meeting
It’s a quick meeting just to clarify what’s happening in the sprints which helps to align the team with the sprint goal, it keeps the team on the same page, and they get a plan for the next 24 hours.
Sprint Review
The development team showcases the backlog items and the Product Owner is the one who decides if it is ready or not to release. The review meeting can also happen when the product owner reworks the product backlog based on the current sprint.
Sprint Retrospective
It’s when the whole team comes together to discuss what worked, what should be done better, and less attention on what went wrong. It’s an overview of everything, even the relationships, tools, or any scrum event.
What are the 3 roles in Scrum?
There isn't a hierarchy on Scrum. However, there are three roles: Scrum Master, Product Owner, and the Development Team. Scrum is based on self-organization and continuous improvement. This division allows the team to take responsibility for what they have organized.

The Development Team
Is a self-organized team mostly composed of designers, writers, programmers… The development team delivers the work through the sprint and shows transparency at the daily meetings.
The Product Owner
The PO must know the needs of the customer to achieve value on the development team. The product owner should also balance the needs of other stakeholders. This role is the voice of the client and the product’s representation. The sprint is a planning cycle and the PO is the one who decides that the product should or not be released.
The Scrum master
The Scrum Master is responsible to make sure that the sprint is going well. This role is a servant leader who helps the PO to manage the backlog and show communication value, and by serving the development team, the Scrum Master ensures that they will focus on outcomes and be self-organized.

By following the main principles of Scrum, the team can become more efficient. It brings maximum business value in a short time.

Why should a company invest in Scrum?
At first, the framework Scrum might seem very complex but is not that hard to understand, it’s just different. It might as well take time to completely understand the roles and principles, especially for the development team to keep themselves aligned.
However, when everything is set up, you will see that it’s much more efficient than another methodology. The long-term benefits far outweigh the initial learning curve.
Thus, agile scrum is an enormous success worldwide. Being part of the agile world, Scrum shows us how to be more efficient, don’t waste time, do things in small steps, work without hierarchy, be self-organized, and so on…
