In addition to the PMP Certification, is there any other?

Of course! Certainly PMP (Project Management Professional) is the most popular, however the PMI offers a complete program consisting of 8 certifications that evaluate knowledge, experience and skills in project management. So if you do not qualify for PMP, do not be discouraged. I will introduce you to several others provided by PMI project management.

Who believes in these certifications?

All available certifications were developed by Project Managers and worldwide accredited by the International Standards Organization (ISO).

1. CAPM Certification - Certified Project Management Technician

When I am asked about this certification, I say that it is ideal for people who do not have as much experience in Project Management. So if you have already participated in project teams or are joining this fantastic area now you may be reading about your next certification.

But what is this CAPM Certification about?

It demonstrates that you understand the key concepts of project management, their technical terms, and what the key processes are according to PMBOK. To be clear that it is as important as PMP Certification, in due proportions.

Do you meet the CAPM Certification requirements?

- High school diploma

- 1,500 hours of project experience or 23 hours of project management training.

2. PfMP Certification - PMI Portfolio Management Professional

When we talk about Portfolios and Programs, we are moving up the hierarchical structure of the company, as we begin to talk about organizational goals and strategic guidelines, parts that influence PMI project management. Therefore, this certification proves the coordinated management capacity of one or more Portfolios that have the mission to achieve the objectives of the organization.

But why is there PMP Certified and PfMP Certified?

I have been asked several times in our classes: "After all, is not everything a project?" That's almost it. The difference is at the organizational level of management. PfMP Certification is for Project and Program Managers. PMP Certification is for Project Managers only. The first one must ensure that the organization is moving towards the defined strategic objectives. The second one must ensure that the projects for this to happen are executed correctly. That's the main difference, got it?

And what proves this PfMP Certification?

If you asked me for a characteristic, I would say: Systemic Vision. The professional must have a sense of the business in which it operates and understand everything that affects it internally and externally.

This certification will attest to your ability to manage and align a portfolio of projects with the strategic guidelines of an organization, ie, what projects do I have to do to make the company's mission fulfilled and vision to be achieved?

- High School Diploma

- Minimum of 10,500 hours of portfolio management experience in the last 15 years

- Minimum of 8 years with professional experience in business, strategic investment and high level organizational decisions.

- Diploma of higher education (minimum 4 years)

- Minimum of 6,000 hours of portfolio management experience in the last 15 years

- Minimum of 8 years with professional experience in business, strategic investment and high level organizational decisions.

3. PMI-PBA Certification - Professional in PMI Business Analysis

Have you ever stopped to think about the ideal business model? Have you come to any conclusions? I have already done this reflection and found that there is no perfect model. Businesses are made to meet customer requirements and the behavior of these varies over time.

Thinking as a customer, we want more and more a complete, customized and intelligent solution. In a project is no different. In fact, we know that it is even more complex, because when we talk about customers and requirements we must remember stakeholders, that is, who impacts and who will be impacted by the results of the project.

But why do we need to relate Business to Project Management?

Most projects arise from business needs. For example, an auto industry has realized that the market is demanding cars that have lower fuel consumption, since the price is high. Oops! We already have a more efficient car development project.

Here's your answer. In this case we would be conducting a project that, from a business analysis, will keep the auto industry on the market.

- Have a high school diploma

- 7,500 hours of experience with business analysis in the last 8 years

- 2,000 hours working on project teams in recent years

- 35 hours of training in business analysis.

- Have a graduation diploma (minimum of 4 years)

- 4,500 Hours of experience with business analysis in the last 8 years

- 2,000 hours working on project teams in recent years

- 35 hours of training in business analysis.

4. PMI-SP Certification - Professional in PMI Schedule Management

I find it funny whenever I mention this certification, since many students think that managing a schedule is just having an Excel worksheet in which you print the cells to show the duration / progress of the schedule.

Manage schedule is much more than mark 100% complete. If I could cite the main characteristic of this process, I would say: Flexibility. You should negotiate deadlines with your team, charge vendors, use schedule compression techniques, apply delays, and anticipate. Anyway, much more complex than you thought, right?

- Have a graduation diploma (minimum of 4 years)

- 3,500 hours of experience with project schedule management

- 40 hours of training in project schedule management.

- Have a high school diploma

- 5,000 hours of experience with project schedule management

5. PMI-RMP Certification - Professional in PMI Risk Management

You will agree with me that we are increasingly doing more complex projects that challenge our limits. Complex in the technical and managerial scope. Have you seen the buildings in Dubai? What do you think of a revolving building?

Speaking of the managerial part, a project involves: communication, quality, scope, time, human resources, risks and others. Any neglect or failure in one of these areas can lead the project to failure, especially failure to identify and block risks.

Therefore, we must have professionals who can map risks, mitigate threats, and exploit opportunities in a project. So if you're looking to develop yourself as a management risk specialist, you've found the exact certification.

What do you need to have to apply for PMI-RMP Certification?

- To have a diploma of graduation (minimum of 4 years)

- 30 hours of training in project risk management.

- 40 hours of training in project risk management.

6. PgMP Certification - Professional in Program Management

I mentioned above the name Program, remember?

This certification proves that you are able to manage several related projects. What is the advantage of having related projects in an organization? Scale gain. Imagine a construction company that has several buildings under construction. It buys material for all projects at once and in great quantity, managing to bargain with suppliers.

What are the desirable characteristics and requirements of PgMP Certification?

This is a certification for those who want to prove the ability to manage multiple projects or more complex projects. You must have:

- A graduation diploma (minimum of 4 years)

- 4 years experience with project management

- 4 years experience with program management.

Or

- High school diploma

- 4 years experience with project management

- 7 years experience with program management.

7. PMI-ACP Certification - Certified Professional in PMI Agile Methods

Have you ever been asked to do less planning and more action? So, the market has already ordered from the organizations higher pace of delivery as well. For this, agile project management was created, since many professionals judge the "traditional" management proposed by PMBOK very bureaucratic.

The agile method for managing projects seeks to increase the pace of team delivery and is heavily employed for IT projects.

And what do you need to have in order to apply?

- 2,000 hours of work in project teams in the last 5 years

- 1,500 hours of work in project teams using agile methods of management
