What is the importance of maintaining a balanced relationship between work and Emotional Health?

The importance of the relationship between work and emotional health is not difficult to understand. Without a good physical and psychic disposition, there is no motivation, good performance, confidence, proactivity, leadership, pleasant conviviality, and, above all, well-being - attributes necessary for a quality work routine.

The truth is that we all need to be healthy to deal with various situations and ensure our balance.

Therefore, taking care of the emotions is essential for the work team to be focused, committed, and motivated to achieve personal goals, combined with those of the company. The emotionality of the team is of great importance not only for each one, individually but for the performance of the tasks themselves.

That is why, currently, many entrepreneurs and business owners have invested in ensuring a healthy organizational environment that stimulates team development and reinforces the importance of each one for the company.

For this, there are beneficial practices that develop emotional health daily - and that directly reflect on the quality of work.

5 tips to have emotional control

1. Self-awareness

Self-knowledge is the first pillar of emotional intelligence. From it, we can understand what happens inside us, such as our feelings, emotions, and weaknesses.

When we identify our emotions, we can control them.

2. Breathing

In a study developed by the Northwestern University School of Medicine, it was, for the first time, proven that the rhythm of air inflow and outflow into the body creates an electrical activity in the human brain that accentuates emotional judgments and uncomfortable memories.

Therefore, we must pay attention to our breathing. When we control its rhythm, we oxygenate the brain and calm the body, causing the tension to decrease.

A good practice is breathing 4-2-6. But how does it work?

You will inhale for 4 seconds, hold the air for 2 seconds and exhale for 6 seconds. Do this for 4 minutes, soon you will notice the difference in your body. Some physical symptoms of anxiety may be weaker. You can repeat this exercise as many times as necessary!

3. Identify the feelings

Recognizing what we are feeling is very important to name these feelings.

When we understand what are the feelings that surround us in certain situations, it is easier to externalize them so that the needs behind them are met.

4. Take time for leisure and to practice physical activities

Physical exercise helps to release accumulated tensions, emotions, and frustrations.

When we exercise, our body releases a hormone called endorphin that stimulates the feeling of well-being and comfort.

And with that, happiness makes us more self-confident, increases our energy levels, and helps our immune system and in our engagement with work and with other people.

5. Choose your battles

We often suffer or stress about situations that we can't control. It is important that, when we are faced with a conflict situation, whether internal or external, we ask ourselves three questions:

  • Do I control the cause of stress? Yes or no?
  • Do I have an influence on this cause of stress? Or who is going to decide? Do I influence the action?
  • If I have no control or influence over what is happening, what should I do? Accept the situation or change it from my actions?

The answer to these questions can help you choose which battles you have to fight, so you avoid wear and tear in situations where you can't control it.

What are the benefits of having an environment with healthy employees?

Emotional health care is advantageous for everyone since the goal is to develop the following aspects:

  • Stimulate the cultivation of control in stressful situations;
  • Teach how to deal with unexpected emotions that may arise;
  • Provide more balance by choosing what does good or bad for yourself and self-confidence to risk;
  • Promote more flexibility to accept changes and news.

In organizations, having emotionally healthy employees means having a more prepared, balanced team that knows how to work as a team and is ready to achieve the goals, strengthening the desire to evolve more and more.

How do contribute to the Emotional Health of employees within organizations?

We should all take care of our emotional health to deal in the best possible way with the emotions that may arise in our daily lives. But that doesn't mean that employees should do it alone.

Here are tips to assist in the emotional health of employees:

Analysis of internal and external factors

The first step is to analyze the internal and external factors that can contribute to or harm the emotional health of your team. Make a list of positive and negative influences to know which factors should be avoided in your company and which should be stimulated.

At this time, it is important that there is the participation of all employees, so that they are truly heard and their impressions considered when planning improvements. From this diagnosis, it is easier to find solutions and make decisions that are positive for everyone.

Activities that provide and reinforce the well-being of employees

The work environment is almost always the place where people spend the most time in their day. Therefore, the company must provide activities that promote the well-being of employees: this is a concern that involves mental, physical, and emotional health.

Below, check out suggestions that can be implemented to improve conviviality and stimulate emotional health:

  • The practice of meditation or breathing exercises;
  • Intervals for stretching;
  • Lectures or days of health promotion;
  • Labor gymnastics workshops;
  • Creation of a recreational environment for employees to use during breaks and lunchtime.

Psychological support

Finally, a great strategy is to offer psychological support to employees. If the goal is to take care of everyone's emotional health, there is nothing better than having professionals for this type of follow-up.
