From the beginnings of civilization, there is a question that haunts most candidates in a selective process: how to behave in a group dynamic? Of course, this is a decisive step in a selective process, and that is what causes such apprehension.

If you follow our Blog regularly, you should have read our articles talking about what to do before, during and after the job interview, right? Well, in this way, we follow up on this series of articles on selective processes with some tips for you to do well in group dynamics.

In group dynamics, the selectors want to evaluate how candidates interact in teams. It is also the time to check which profiles are in accordance with the company's culture and the requester's area. So there is no win or lose. What exists is whether or not it is appropriate to work in a future position.

Communicate

When we talk about how to behave in a group dynamic, one of the main points is undoubtedly communication. The interviewer wants to test his ability to express his ideas and, especially, to interact with others.

So be clear when you are putting your ideas to the test, do it simply and simply. Never speak more than you know, you may end up committing yourself to some information and you may also contradict yourself. Remember, be concise!

Be candid and authentic

The best candidate is the one who is sincere with you and with others. Staging a character is the worst thing you can do, for there is no lie that lasts forever, and you will have to play that role forever. It is best to be natural and interact in your own way.

There is no point in overestimating yourself because besides being arrogant, your skills will certainly be put to the test at some point. So in order not to go through the embarrassment of being less than you presented, do not be tempted to sell an image that does not correspond to you.

It is essential to know how to sell your fish, but it is better to be surprised to be more than disappointed by being less.

Teamwork

Well, the dynamic group name says it all, does not it? Therefore, teamwork is crucial so that you know how to behave in a group dynamic. Capabilities such as knowing how to listen, respecting others' opinions and expressing their ideas in a friendly way are highly valued. Education is fundamental and can be the point of success or split at that time.

Reconciling the ability to listen with initiative can be a tricky task, as you need to state your opinions as well. It is not enough just to listen, because companies value leadership capacity a lot. However, leadership should not be confused with authoritarianism, that is, its opinion and thinking can not trample the opinions of others.

Initiative

The initiative is essential, as has already been said. Do not be the last to speak, as this demonstrates total lack of initiative. I'm not saying that you need to be the first, but it is imperative that you demonstrate initiative, as this is one of the main skills of a good professional.

Remember not to sound forced. Many people do not have a lot of initiative profiles, and this is normal. Just try not to stay last.

Keep an eye on the guidelines

Always pay close attention to the guidelines that are given to you by those responsible for the dynamics. All information, however small, is relevant in some way. Avoid talking in parallel with the other candidates, as this shows lack of interest.

The lack of attention can cause you to do an activity in an incorrect way, or even end up not valuing a certain activity, thinking that it does not have much importance. Do not make that mistake! Always try to find out what the interviewer's intention is with that activity, what the goal is.

Do not Be Worried About Other Candidates

If you pay close attention to other candidates' performance, you will become insecure and fail to demonstrate who you truly are. Forget the other candidates in this respect; participate with them, interact, but trust yourself, believe that you are the most qualified for the position in question.

Some tips

We can summarize the tips given and add some more that will make a difference so that you know exactly how to behave in a group dynamic:

  • While you wait, be discreet and police your tone of voice and your posture.
  • Try to stay calm and express yourself clearly. Do not speak loudly or use slang or anything else that draws more attention than your own speech.
  • Be frank and authentic.
  • In group dynamics, do not ask any nonsense just to be interested and participative. You will show, on the contrary, immature and "appeared."
  • Read the newspaper or search the main news of the day on the internet. The more informed you are, the more likely you are to have an interview with the interviewer about current events and to be alert to the job market.
  • If possible, inquire about the company before going there, because in interviews or dynamics, questions can be asked about subjects related to the company's area of activity.

Bonus: what clothes to wear?

The company profile can also help you to define what clothes to wear. For example, advertising agencies often tolerate more informal clothing. Banks and companies of more serious profile prefer social outfits. Either way, women should avoid necklines and short clothes and have neat and tidy nails and hair.

Men should be well-behaved and trim, matching shoes and a full suit (including a jacket or blazer. In both cases, it is worth saying that it is imperative to carry a small amount: in the case of women, at most one bag and a folder of documents/laptop; in the case of men, a male folder - a backpack is a sign of immaturity).
